Twins Send Struggling Buxton Down to Minors

We had to wait to find out the correlating roster move, but now you have it: center fielders Byron Buxton and Max Kepler are going to AAA. It’s possible he could land on the 15-day disabled list.

Santana, who was activated following a minor-league rehab stint, will fill the vacancy in center field along with Eddie Rosario.

Santana missed the past 14 games with a right hamstring strain suffered April 9 at Kansas City.

Meyer posted a 1.04 ERA with four walks and 19 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings for the Triple-A club this month. 167 with two doubles in 12 at-bats. In his most recent outing, last Wednesday against Pawtucket, Meyer, 26, gave up two runs over seven innings with Twins general manager Terry Ryan in attendance.

Meyer, a former prized starting pitching prospect who is still starting at Triple-A Rochester, will come out of the bullpen when he joins the Twins. In particular, long reliever Michael Tonkin and lefty Ryan O’Rourke need a break after a taxing weekend sweep against the Nationals.

The No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft only saw 59 at-bats in Rochester prior to today’s transaction, and he hit.
