Twins to honor Jacob Wetterling with jersey patch

Occasionally a auto would drive down the short cul-de-sac to the house, some to drop off flowers, others to see if anything was going on.

Jacob was 11 when he was abducted from a rural road near his home in central Minnesota on October 22, 1989.

The Minnesota Twins will honor Jacob Wetterling and show support for his family by wearing a No. 11 patch on their jerseys Friday night against the Indians.

The Indians’ players will also be wearing the No. 11 patch.

People who wear #11 can post to social media with the #11forJacob or #JacobsHopeLives.

Beginning Friday, the Twins will auction off 11 game-worn jerseys with the number 11 patch from Friday with all proceeds benefitting the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center. Fans can go to www.twinsbaseball.com/auctions to bid on the jerseys.

A tribute to Jacob’s life, an outfield wall graphic, will remain at Target Field for the rest of the 2016 season. On Tuesday, 53-year-old Danny Heinrich admitted he abducted, sexually assaulted and killed the boy, then buried his body. “This bad tragedy has galvanized our community for more than 27 years”, Twins President Dave St. Peter said in a statement.

The list was put together after a youth soccer team asked if they could all wear No. 11 jerseys for an upcoming game.

“If that’s what the endpoint of this part, this chapter of the story is, what we can do to make the world better for kids that’s a good way for this chapter of the story to end” said Alison Feigh, Program Manager for JWRC.
