Twist and Om: Millions exercise together for global Yoga Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined a crowd of 30,000 schoolchildren and other residents of the northern city of Chandigarh for a mass yoga session. Move this photo around to get different perspectives.

Modi, dressed in a white-coloured t-shirt and trouser along with a scarf, led over 30,000 participants, including defence forces personnel and school children, for the second International Day of Yoga celebrations here at the Capitol Complex amid tight security. Yoga guru Ramdev led a yoga camp in Faridabad near Delhi today, in which a record 100,000 participated. “It promotes harmony among people, and between ourselves and the natural world”, he said, adding that the United Nations General Assembly had proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in recognition of its “universal appeal”. “I am pleased to see the number of people performing yoga here”.

Today’s is the special day for those who maintain health by the help YOGA.

The celebrations for the second International Day for Yoga were organized across the globe including the United Nations headquarters in NY.

On the first International Yoga Day previous year, Prime Minister Modi led thousands of people through various yogic exercises at Rajpath in New Delhi.

Yogi and mystic, Sadhguru notes the importance of this day in the yogic tradition: “On the day of the summer solstice, Adiyogi [the first yogi] turned south and first set his eyes on the Saptarishis or Seven Sages, who were his first disciples to carry the science of yoga to many parts of the world”.

Modi Encouraged the Yoga teachers from across India and 2 people were also honoured in the event.

The mega mass yoga demonstration organised at Connaught Place witnessed huge participation of people from all walks of life.
