Twitch announces that Bob Ross is here to stay
More than 183,000 viewers watched the final episode of the PBS painting show being streamed. The show has 31 seasons, which means there will be reruns of the show only once every seven months.

“When we first discussed the idea of running an all-episodes marathon of “The Joy of Painting” with the Bob Ross folks, we weren’t entirely sure what would happen”, Bill Morrier, head of Twitch Creative, wrote on the site’s official blog. In addition, Twitch has made a decision to capitalize on this interest further, and has chose to keep Ross around by streaming a season of “The Joy of Painting” every Monday, starting today. It has also been revealed that Twitch users will be able to paint along with the series as it airs, sharing their work, as well as commentary, on the site to create an even deeper level of interaction with the classic series. That’s why “The Joy of Painting” will carry on.
The Bob Ross broadcast, enabled by Janson Media and Bob Ross Inc.to honor the memory of Ross, was watched by 5.6 million unique viewers for 545.9 million minutes. Time to add your own favorite color.
That’s not all. A marathon of the show will air every October 29 to celebrate Ross’ birthday, just like they did this year. So, as a thanks, they are allowing Twitch broadcasters to re-stream these mini-marathons. Bob’s voice sends many of us to sleep at night, and calms and inspires us throughout the day.

Twitch also says it will split the proceeds from the channel’s $4.99 subscription option between the rights holders; Root division, its local arts organization supporting artists and teaching children the arts; cancer research organization St Jude; and with Twitch Creative community support – meaning it’s keeping a few of the money for itself to re-invest in the Creative category.
