Twitch moves towards pure HTML5 video player, has ditched some Flash
Yet another nail in Flash’s coffin.

Streaming gamer platform Twitch is following YouTube’s lead and ditching Adobe’s besieged video player Flash.
On Wednesday, July 22, Twitch revealed that it would be transitioning from Flash to HTML 5 and Javascript. Why? The streaming service today announced that it was rolling out a redesign to its video player controls, replacing the old Flash versions with new Javascipt and HTML5 options.
While the video control code has been updated, and is rolling out to the service right now, the underlying video display is still rendered by Adobe Flash. Earlier, web developers used to use Flash a lot and nearly every website we visited would incorporate Flash into its videos and menus.
The move by Twitch to ditch Flash for HTML5 is similar to that of Google’s YouTube.

The new player will appear on channel pages initially, and will be gradually rolled out across the site ‘at a steady pace, ‘ Price explained. But Twitch says that this is “an important step” towards releasing a purely HTML5 player. As previously mentioned, this is a gradual roll out. Twitch is steadily working on the revamped player, which means no more buggy flash in the near term.
