Just keep Twitter open in a tab and click around wherever else you like, the notification will jump out at you anyways on the top right side of the screen. Upon clicking the notification, users are directed to their direct messages page from where they can read and respond.

Twitter users are predominantly mobile-first, so this feature will come in handy for those who tend to stick around their desktops.

According to Gadgets NDTV, a Twitter spokesperson also confirmed an upcoming update for the Twitter app for Android that basically revamps the direct message feature to boost engagement. We’ve made the avatars more prominent, and placed your most recent conversations up top.

Thanks to the removal of the 140 character limit, users can now send larger texts to each other, and since January, they can also mass-message each other as well.

In case the user misses the change to the DM icon in the site’s menu, a popup desktop-based notification will also be shown.
