Twitter explodes with dad jokes for VP nominee Tim Kaine

Tim Kaine as her running mate, bringing a swing-state centrist to the first woman-led presidential ticket for a major party. To make his case – knowing polls show a majority of Americans don’t trust the Democratic nominee – the senator went personal, pointing to his eldest son, a Marine serving overseas.

Castro, who spoke with Muir alongside his twin brother, Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro, at the convention Wednesday, was vetted early in July by the campaign for the vice presidential spot.

Kaine won a city council seat in 1994 and was elected mayor of Richmond four years later. But as he delivered his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention, people started to liken his demeanor to the endearing father figure seen in a lot of old TV sit-coms. The man has never lost an election. Donald, what are you hiding? “There, in a former capital of the Confederacy, he summed up the history-making moment in four words”.

Kaine also denied he had changed his stance on the Trans-Pacific Partnership, insisting that he has not “shifted my position on that”.

Lacking Obama’s sweeping rhetoric or the “I-feel-your-pain” sensitivity of her husband, Clinton leaned into her wonky image, saying, “I sweat the details of policy”.

“Hillary’s passion is kids and families”.

Before his convention speech, Holton said Kaine kept the atmosphere backstage loose, even playing music by The Who, Peter Gabriel and other favorite artists. It still wasn’t enough, though – it took getting picked as the Vice Presidential nominee for Kaine to take the one last step away from his record, and endorsing taxpayer funding for abortions and the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

The hope, of course, is that Kaine will be able to win over potential Trump voters, specifically, white, low-income males in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and his home state of Virginia-all battlegrounds Democrats carried in 2008 and 2012, but which have the potential to swing red again this time around. Elizabeth Warren would get the nod, has expressed its disappointment with Clinton’s choice.

And press secretary Brian Fallon tweeted that Kaine promised to carry out Clinton’s agenda on the issue.

He said he developed his faith, his North Star for orienting his life, while growing up in a religious household and attending a Jesuit high school. “Giving back to his community is who he is”, Lopez said. Sounding more like a pundit than the subject of all the vitriol, he pronounced her speech “so average” and “full of cliches”. Currently, 53 percent of Virginians approve of the job he’s doing, compared to 25 percent who disapprove.

His likability also extends to both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill.

Since 2012, Kaine has served in the Senate on the Armed Services, Budget, Foreign Relations and Aging Committees.

“‘Believe me? Believe me?'” Kaine mocked. And Kaine sought to assure the audience she can be taken at her word, insisting she has long ago reversed the way of thinking that had her advocating for children who illegally cross the border to be deported.

Peter Rosenstein is a longtime LGBT rights and Democratic Party activist. But Trump said Friday that Sanders “sold his soul to the devil” when he – unlike some of his loudly protesting supporters – threw his support behind Clinton.

Elaine Gelb, a real estate manager from Philadelphia, said although she didn’t view Kaine as an “exciting” pick, the senator appeared to be a good match and political partner for Clinton. “Donald Trump”, Kaine added. Kaine disclosed everything he was given, but McDonnell failed to disclose $177,000 of the gifts he received.
