Candidates for a new team name include “Stud Muffins”, “Timber Jockeys” and “Rumble Ponies” – no joke – and you have to figure Tebow would mean a ton of Rumble Pony jersey sales.

NEW YORK (AP) Former Heisman Trophy victor Tim Tebow signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets.
Tebow’s baseball game needs a lot of work, which is why the Mets are sending him to the instructional league, but he’s not going to be there every day. The last time he played was in his junior year of high school where he played three sports including football and basketball.
If this venture ends the way most people expect it to, Tebow will get discouraged by the bus trips and the failure in the minors and go back to his TV work with ESPN.
The Big Apple club insists that the move is not a publicity stunt and they are genuinely interested in the former quarterback’s athletic prowess. To out the sweat equity into Tebow to prepare him for a major league career will be a tremendous undertaking.
The 29-year-old signed a minor league contract and will participate in the Mets’ instructional league in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Not going all-in on baseball is hubris – the rules for success don’t apply to him.
Tebow’s agent is Brodie Van Wagenen, who also represents a number of other Mets, including Yoenis Cespedes.
