Twitter Is About To Make 140 Characters A Lot Easier

Past year the company dropped the 140 character limit for Direct Messages (DMs), and rumours were swirling that the company was also looking into expanding the length of tweets to 10,000 characters. It has been mulling changes in the timeline such as tweets with importance get featured on the top when you open Twitter but that has not been popular with users.

If a user shares both a photo and a link, they would already be using a minimum of 45 characters, leaving them with only 95 characters to compose an accompanying message. According to Bloomberg, the update is expected to occur sometime in the next couple of weeks. On the flip side, it can sometimes be tough getting an idea across in 140 characters. and it’s even more challenging when links and photos take up part of the character count. Rumors that Twitter would be increasing their character limit from 140 to 10,000 characters also surfaced earlier this year.

The 140 character limit mimics the restriction that used to be placed on txt messages (Millennials, ask your parents). For example, some people tweet screenshots of longer text in articles, or send many tweets one after the other to tell a story.

Soon, managing to fit everything you have to say within Twitter’s character limit is going to be a lot easier. “That’s more utility and power”.

There has been talk for some time now that Twitter is about to change the limit on the 140 characters allowed in a single tweet. Find us on Facebook too!
