With the ascendancy of Facebook Live and YouTube’s announcement last month that it’s bringing built-in live streaming to its mobile app, it’s not surprising to see Twitter rolling out updates for its Periscope live broadcasting app. They will show up on your home feed in the Periscope app, and are not shareable. Periscope and Facebook Live are the two preeminent live streaming platforms, but Facebook has been pouring an vast amount of resources into its video infrastructure over the previous year. Finally, Periscope added autoplay for live feeds within the Android app, which should help to boost viewing as well. They must be viewed within the Periscope app. The feature is being rolled out to users today.
If you like a particular replay highlight, you can tap on the white info bar beneath the clip and it will take you to the precise moment in the broadcast that you were watching. Additionally, the refreshed Watch Tab and Global Feed will show broadcasts in a larger, immersive format and will autoplay live broadcasts to instantly show viewers what’s happening in the world.
At the same time, Periscope unveiled a new embed feature, meaning that publishers and users can insert a Periscope live stream (or replay) into any article or website simply by embedding a Tweet comprising the Periscope link.
Periscope is also toying with a feature it’s calling Highlights, which generates a trailer for each broadcast.

The feature will be on Pericope’s iOS and Android apps “in the next few days”, according to Twitter. But Facebook, encouraged by early feedback from its own live feature, has opened up Live to its 1.65 billion users, proving a tough competitor to Periscope.
