The user base in the fourth quarter remained stalled at 320 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs) which is the same as the third quarter, although increased from 292 million during the same period a year ago.
Twitter announced the changes Wednesday as it tries to stay relevant in the face of stiff competition from Facebook, Snapchat and other services. The troubled company, which lost four top executives last month, posted a net loss of $90 million on $710 million in revenues for the quarter.
This will be an opt-in feature and not a mandatory one, something which is welcome news to several users.
While the company said it is taking additional steps – including launching changes to the timeline of tweets earlier Wednesday – it told investors not to expect immediate results.

Twitter habitually makes losses and it was in the red by $90m (£62m) in the fourth quarter, though this was 28% down year-on-year. The problem, Dorsey admitted, is that in some ways Twitter still is not intuitive to use, and it has quirks that new users find hard to grasp.
