Twitter testing night mode on its Android alpha app

Twitter, though, is still a long way from offering night mode to its Android users.

Companies like Twitter and Facebook do like to test out new features from time to time, some of which are never seen again. Available only to a select number of alpha testers, the app’s UI will automatically change to a darker appearance, which should be easier on the eyes at night time. However, the social networking giant is now A/B testing the new night mode feature in the alpha version of its app. The reports also claim that the app will be able to switch back and forth automatically meaning that there’s no input from the user at all. Apart from testing the night mode, Twitter has also chalked plans to place new buttons on its interface.

Would you use a night mode in the official Twitter app? According to 9to5 Google, the company is now testing overflow buttons, hamburger slide out menus, and a floating action button (FAB). The APK for the alpha A/B testing Twitter version is rolled out server side, which means that it’s not available to regular users. Spotted last month, the app makes use of tabs for the Timeline, Moments, Notifications, and Messages.

The new features are visible only to a few Twitter app users, and the company might even integrate more controls before launching the final stable version. The night mode feature on the alpha version of Twitter for Android can not be manually turned off, and stays in effect until the morning comes. However, the new theme can only be found in the current alpha version of Twitter’s Android app.
