Twitter to Stop Counting Photos, Usernames Toward Character Limit
In August, Twitter removed the 140-character limit for direct messages.

Sure, there were some grumbles out there – nothing’s going to be universally liked. Today, Twitter made it official.
“That said, much of the social media world is moving toward communicating via video, and I’d love to see Twitter make video more of a centerpiece of the service”. When “favorite” turned to “like,” there was a small revolt. While he said the changes are not likely to bring back users who have abandoned the site, new users might be less alienated. There were rumors that they may change the limit for Tweets, but that was met with a lot of negativity.
Dorsey has said the company, which has been facing stagnating user growth, will simplify its product in an effort to attract new users. I actually do this from time to time already, leading to the inevitable “talking to yourself again?” commentary from the Twitterverse. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as the lack of mouth-foaming outrage Tuesday may indicate.
Finally, Twitter will now show new tweets that you send to other users to all of your followers, so you no longer have to put a period in front of the @name to make it visible to all.
In addition, media attachments such as photos, GIFs, videos, polls and quote tweets will no longer count toward a tweet’s character limit.
Twitter is giving users more room to express themselves. “Currently, if you want to reply to someone you would start the Tweet as “@androidheadline…” however if that would only be seen by your and that person’s followers. Probably, for a little bit.
You will soon be able to retweet your own comments. Not everyone is happy with the reply tweaks. Often people communicate with a business on Twitter, probably to complain, and get a reply starting with their @username – remember they can’t DM you if you’re not following them.

Twitter’s last big change was getting rid of stars and replacing them with hearts in November past year.
