For every $1 worth of Powerball sales, half goes to prizes, 40 percent to causes such as education, and 10 percent to retailers who sell the tickets and other administrative costs, Grief said. The Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night’s drawing is at least $1.5 billion, the largest lottery jack…

If there had not been a victor, the jackpot would’ve increased yet again, further shattering lottery records. It’s not known where the Florida victor was sold.

Linda Windey matched the five white ball winning numbers, not the powerball but still walks away with $1 million, that she says couldn’t have come at a more flawless time.

The prize money will be distributed to winners in a lump sum or 30 annual payments.

Three winning tickets for the $1.5 billion prize were sold in California, Tennesee and Florida, lottery officials reported.

It could take several hours before officials know whether any winning tickets were sold elsewhere.

The California store and its surrounding strip mall suddenly became a popular gathering spot in the usually quiet suburb of 75,000. Hundreds of people crowded the store and spilled into its parking lot, cheering and mugging for the television cameras and chanting “Chino Hills! Chino Hills!” in celebration of the city.

Crowds descended on the store after word emerged where the winning ticket had been bought, to snap pictures and congratulate the sales assistant.

“I’d certainly take care of my family”, he said.

“If you are a US resident with a valid Social Security number, 25 percent federal withholding tax is deducted, so the victor would get $750,000 on the $1 million prize and $1,500,000 on the $2 million winning ticket, Gerteisen said”.

The holder of that ticket will share the $1.6 billion jackpot with winners in Southern California and Florida.

The jackpot will be split three ways. It has never sold a ticket with a prize that high, he said.
