Two brothers arrested in shooting death of basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin

Aldridge was gunned down as she pushed a child in a stroller Friday afternoon, walking in the 6300 block of South Calumet Ave in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood.

Both men are gang members who were on parole at the time of the shooting, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a Chicago Police spokesman.

Those two men have been arrested and charged in the shooting of Aldridge, according to USA Today.

26, and Derren Sorrells, 22, have each been charged with first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder, police said Sunday.

There is video of the incident, Deenihan said, but no weapon was recovered and police don’t know where the weapon is. They are being held without bail as they have been deemed a danger to society.

Chicago law enforcement officials announced on Sunday that Darwin Sorrells Jr. and Derren Sorrells, two brothers now on parole, were the men who had fatally shot #Nykea Aldridge, the cousin of National Basketball Association star and Chicago native #Dwyane Wade.

Authorities said 26-year-old Darwin Sorrells Jr and 22-year-old Derren Sorrells were charged on Sunday in the death of Aldridge.

In a briefing on Sunday, police did not say why the driver was targeted except to note that the man was from outside the area and appeared to have an exchange of words with the suspects. On Sunday, the Chicago police confirmed that they had arrested two brothers in connection to her shooting death. In January 2013 he was sentenced to six years in prison, but was released early.

Wade was understandably gutted by the violence that took a family member’s life. Her infant child was thankfully unharmed, and is now in the care of relatives. Wade tweeted about the senseless gun violence, the need for more help in the city of Chicago, and that kids are literally crying out for help.

Somehow, Aldridge finds mercy for her daughter’s killers. “But they continue it because we continually show them that there is no effect and they’re going to keep doing it until we show them that we are serious”.

Wade also tweeted on Saturday morning: “The city of Chicago is hurting”.

The ever articulate position that black people shouldn’t be shot is what candidate Trump considers to be his general election pivot in order to curry favor among African American voters with recent polling showing the candidate only garnering 8% support among the black electorate. “We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction”.
