Apple shares rose 1 percent to $115.31 on Monday in New York. The unfortunate men who have been identified as Wu and Huang, were both eager to buy the latest Apple smartphone.

It’s bad enough that the pair thought of selling their kidneys, and went as far as visiting a hospital to get the organs checked out, considering such a practice is illegal in many parts of the world. But rarely do we imagine that desperation to be so great, someone would be willing to sell their organs on the black market to get their hands on the latest iPhone.

The search eventually led them to a Chinese social media network QQ where they were informed that one kidney could sell up to 200,000 Yuan, depending on the blood type.

In the wake of quieting down soon thereafter, Wu rethought offering his organ. He advised his companion to stop the arrangement yet Huang wouldn’t tune in. He even tried calling the police.

His friend then called the cops, however, Huang ran away and has been out of reach so far.

The incident was exposed after a man was reported missing in Nanjing, eastern China after a failed organ sale.

The criminals, named as Hu and Xiang, had travelled to Hubei in 2014 to sell their kidneys in order to pay for iPhones.

Wu, one who had first suggested the plan, told his friend to reconsidered.

He later became disabled as a result of the surgery.
