Two dead as flood tears through Maryland downtown
“I know this has been difficult and we have been working hard to allow folks to return to their homes for essential possessions”, Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman said.

“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life”, he said.
So many people crowded into the community center Monday that attendees spilled into each of the rooms in the building to watch feeds of the meeting livestream on social media. “We believe there’s some contributions to the flood from both directions”.
A woman became trapped in her vehicle when a flash flood hit downtown Ellicott City, Maryland. Watsula was traveling with her mother-in-law and two sisters and was unable to escape when their vehicle got swept up in the floodwaters. The woman is hesitant to exit the auto, but bystanders plead with her to abandon the vehicle.
“We don’t want to be a burden on anybody, so anywhere where we can get information or help, we’re going there”, Bush said. The Maryland flash flood was historic.
Joseph Blevins, 38, of Windsor Mill, Maryland also died in his vehicle.
The street itself had turned into a violent, fast-moving river and it’s half a wonder that the men were able to keep their footing.
This action from the department follows a directive from Governor Larry Hogan earlier this week ordering all state agencies to assist Ellicott City residents and businesses in their recovery efforts from the historic flooding this past weekend.
“He said they will make sure Ellicott City rises up to be even stronger and more vibrant”. While the administration ensures that insurance companies comply with state laws, Hatchette said its focus at the disaster assistance center is to help people understand their policies. The rain from the storm swamped the small watershed of the Tiber and Hudson rivers that spills into the Patapsco, Howard County emergency official Ryan Miller told the newspaper.

No firm financial damage estimate is available, but Ryan Miller, director for emergency management in the county, said it would run into the millions of dollars. He says some buildings may not be repairable. Watsula was with her family, visiting Ellicott City when the flash flood overtook them.
