Two dead, one missing after commercial fishing boat capsizes near Tofino

Two other men’s body’s were found this morning, while a fourth was rescued after their fishing boat sunk last night.

The Transportation Safety Board has deployed an investigation team and has confirmed the vessel as the Caledonian.

Emergency officials said they were notified of the accident around 10 a.m. Sunday when the crew didn’t check in.

Lieutenant Nicole Murillo says that crew member was found dead.

The search was continuing Sunday with one Cormorant aircraft and three Coast Guard ships about 55 kilometres off Estevan Point where the surviving crew member was found, Murillo said.

Canadian Coast Guard spokesman Dan Bate says another person was rescued from a life raft and crews are searching for a fourth person. He was put on a cruise ship headed to Victoria, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials haven’t yet released the names of the victims or identified their fishing company.
