Two injured in accidental shooting at Augusta High School graduation

“It was in his sock”, Augusta Director of Public Safety Tyler Brewer told reporters Sunday. “He went to adjust his sock, and the weapon went off, striking him in the foot”.

A man’s concealed gun accidentally discharged when he was sitting in the bleacher’s of Hillier Stadium, where the outdoor commencement was held. Shove a loaded gun in your sock, take it into a prohibited area, then, when you’re surrounded by hundreds of other people, negligently pull the trigger as you try to scratch an itch. In the following Twitter tweet, a no gun policy is clearly marked on the gates of the high school.

Describing the shooting as “a knuckleheaded situation”, Brewer said the man had a concealed carry permit but still broke the law by bringing the gun to the school. The bullet travelled through the man’s foot and continued on for a further 50 feet, where it struck a woman’s calf muscle.

“It doesn’t look like they are life-threatening injuries at this point in time”, Brewer said. “We are still investigating”.

The graduation ceremony proceeded after the shooting. She’s presently in Wesley Medical Center, listed in serious condition. A private vehicle transported the second victim to Kansas Medical Center, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office said. The woman’s family said she is going to be okay.
