Two Kentucky prisoners captured after failed jail escape

Late Monday night, Louisville Metro Corrections said two of their inmates had escaped from a facility in downtown Louisville.

They tied bed sheets together and climbed down three stories to illicit freedom.

Just over six hours later, at around 3.30am Tuesday, Cornelius was recaptured by police.

It’s a jail break straight out of the movies, that has police searching for two inmates on the loose who allegedly used their bed sheets to escape. He was being evaluated for minor injuries.

37-year-old Christopher Cornelius and 29-year-old Matthew Johnson were reported missing about 9 p.m. Monday.

The corrections office said the duo had escaped after they were, “assigned to an interior work detail”, according to NBC News. We have buried several of his friends.

Johnson was also apprehended early Tuesday morning.

“I wouldn’t wish this on anybody”, Billie Jo Johnson said.

Cornelius and Johnson had been booked at the correction center for charges of possession of heroin, said Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. Johnson was booked July 31 on charges including drug paraphernalia.

Before the failed escape, both men were in jail for drug and non-support charges.
