Two killed in Kentucky high school shooting identified; 17 others injured

Officials in Kentucky say 18 people were injured and two were killed after a gunman opened fire in a Kentucky high school.

But in these towns, she said, future shooters grow up surrounded by classmates who seem to be enjoying life, excelling in sports or academics, and being raised in wonderful families. Webb said detectives are looking into his home and background.

A business owner, Mitchell Garland, said he saw almost 100 students running out of the high school seeking safety. She didn’t stop until she made it to a McDonald’s, more than a mile (1.6 kilometers) from school.

“They was running and crying and screaming”, said Mitchell Garland, who owns the cleaning company where the girl took refuge.

Police are at the school processing the scene to make sure all evidence has been collected, he said, before reopening the high school. Mitch McConnell sent staffers.

On the other side of the Capitol, Rep. Attica Scott, D-Louisville, read a list of school shootings in Kentucky, saying that each time the legislature responded by offering its thoughts and prayers.

Among those unfortunately unable to escape were 15-year-olds Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Ryan Cope, who lost their lives in the tragedy. Twelve of those injured suffered bullet wounds.

As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, the information officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center reported the female patient who went to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital on Tuesday night was discharged. According to everytownresearch.org, since 2013, there have been almost 300 school shootings in America – an average of about one a week.

At this point past year, there had been five school shootings nationwide.

His update said a total of 16 people were wounded Tuesday by gunfire, two of them fatally, at Marshall County High School in rural western Kentucky.

School shootings are tragically becoming all too common.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin said the shooter was also a 15-year-old male student, during a joint news conference with the Kentucky State Police.
