Two Killed When WWII-Era Tank Explodes in Oregon

The blast happened just after 3 p.m.at a public firing range around 25 miles east of Bend, according to the Oregon State Police.

Local and state police have announced the death of two people who were killed earlier this afternoon after a vintage World War II tank exploded.

The OSP Arson and Explosives Section and detectives from the sheriff’s office are investigating. Paramedics with Bend Fire & Rescue attempted lifesaving efforts, but the two people died from their injuries.

No other details were immediately released, pending further investigation and notification of family members. NBC News tried to obtain comment from the Shooting Sports Association, but calls weren’t answered Tuesday night.

Officers could be heard gathering evidence and taking measurements at the scene as night fell.
