Atlantic City Police Chief Henry White said the shooting broke out after officers stopped three men. The second police officer returned fire, hitting one suspect, who fled the scene.
Atlantic City police Chief Henry White said the shooting happened Saturday morning after officers stopped a vehicle with three men near a parking garage of Caesars casino. Officers from several departments searched the area for the at least two more suspects. The dead suspect is identified as 25-year-old Jerome Damon of Camden. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two suspects, the Atlantic City police would like to hear from you.
Prosecutors have released surveillance video of suspects being sought after the shooting of an Atlantic City police officer.
White said despite the police presence and the ongoing search, the city’s popular outlet mall would be open today for tourists in town for Labor Day weekend.
Update: New Jersey State Police have now arrested Martell Chisholm, 19, and Demetrius Cross, 28.
One suspect was shot dead and the officer ended up in surgery with a gunshot wound to the head.
During a news conference on Sunday to discuss the city’s storm preparations, Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian said the officer is “doing remarkably well”. The three robbery victims cooperated with police and were released from custody.
