Two shoppers were stabbed to death in an attack at an Ikea store in the central Swedish town of Vasteras, over which a man has been arrested, police said Monday.

Local police said they had been called to the store around 1300 CET (1100 GMT).

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, but police did not give any indication of a possible motive.

Another person was seriously injured.

A third person, a man in his mid-30s, has been taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. “The building was evacuated and closed immediately after the attack”.

Department store manager Mattias Johansson told regional Swedish newspaper VLT that the victims were “three seemingly ordinary visitors”.

An IKEA spokeswoman said: “We do not have the whole picture in front of us”.
