Two Powerball tickets win big prizes in North Dakota
They made a decision to take his winnings in a single lump sum of almost $328 million, rather than let the Lottery invest the prize and pay him 30 annual installments totaling an estimated $533 million.

The mayor of a small Tennessee town where one of three winning Powerball jackpot tickets was sold says he knows the couple who claims they won. No more will be forthcoming.
The couple’s last name was not revealed because Maryland is one of six states where winners can remain anonymous or have few details released on their identities.
Iowa prosecutors say a computer expert working for the Multi-State Lottery Association, or MUSL, which runs games for 37 member states and USA territories, figured out how to rig number-generating computers to pick his set of numbers.
“Lottery winners often become targets for fraudulent legal actions, break-ins to their homes, (and so on)”, said Darren T. Case, an attorney at the Phoenix law firm Tiffany & Bosco P.A. “Proper legal planning can help avoid a lot of these costly and scary issues that will most likely arise”.
Those who play in moderation, however, should experience no negative consequences except mild disappointment over their non-winning tickets.
“My first thought was, I’ve always wanted a horse”, she said.
The Massachusetts Lottery said two tickets worth $1 million each were sold in the state prior to Wednesday night’s historic drawing worth $1.6 billion.
Kathryn and Ricardo from Frederick, Md., hold their $1 million lottery check after the historic Powerball drawing on Wednesday.
While some lottery winners are glad to share their stories of sudden riches with the public, doing so leaves them vulnerable to scam artists and other crimes. California’s share represents $154 million for its schools, Russ Lopez said – not enough “to get schools out of trouble”. A 7-Eleven in Chino Hills, California, will get $1 million, the Publix in Melbourne Beach will get $100,000, and a store in the small Tennessee town of Munford will get $25,000.
The massive $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot will be split between the Robinsons and two other ticket holders. Several were sold in Southern California – in Santa Monica, Tustin, Gardena, Irwindale, Chula Vista, Redlands, Nipton, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Vacaville and Cloverdale. “People are more cautious than that”, he said.
Robinson said he bought the winning ticket at his wife’s request at the family-owned Naifeh’s grocery on his way home from work Wednesday night, then went to sleep.
“I was just joking, I said, this is the time someone’s going to hit it”, laughed Atwal. Winning tickets were also sold in California and Florida. California Lottery officials said they were skeptical after a spokesperson for nursing home owner Shlomo Rechnitz said the victor was a senior registered nurse at Park Avenue Health Care and Wellness Center in Pomona.

Lottoland has explained an Australian victor would be charged tax as an American citizen would, making the winnings closer to $1.5 billion.
