Defender Luke Shaw has denied that he is gay on Twitter. “He’s a United player and we support him”. To which Shaw replied: “it’s not me so everyone can shut up now”.
Luke is now recovering from a broken leg.
Homosexual footballers have until now kept quiet over the issue for fear of the ensuing backlash, but The Mirror believe that attitudes towards gay players are now changing and the two stars feel that the time is now right to open up.
The two players are reported to have told family and friends, and are being supported by their clubs and the Football Association.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said “I think it is a good time for someone to come out because organisations like my own and others, which work with gay and lesbian communities, would be supportive”.
Fashanu was subjected to regular abuse from fans and from fellow players during his career.
Former Aston Villa player Thomas Hitzlsperger said he was gay after he retired in 2014 and Robbie Rogers quit the game after saying he was gay in 2012 before returning to the sport, where he now plays for the LA Galaxy alongside Robbie Keane.
