Two Shot Dead By Chicago Police Officer
According to the Chicago Tribune, this is the first incident of lethal force by Chicago police following the public release of footage of Laquan McDonald’s shooting death.

Chicago police officers talk with relatives of one of the two people killed by a police officer, as they investigate a shooting in the entry of their apartment in Chicago on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015.
The latest officer-involved shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. (5:30 a.m. ET) Saturday near West Garfield Park, Chicago police spokeswoman Ana Pacheco said.
Relatives said Bettie Jones lived downstairs from Quintonio LeGrier, the 19-year-old who prompted the initial call to police and who also was killed. A student of engineering at Northern Illinois University, Quintonio was “finally going somewhere”. He told the Chicago Tribune he believes the officer “messed up” when he opened fire on the house.
Recent cases and released videos show a culture of excessive force and a shoot first and cover it up culture within Chicago’s police department.
“This new policy which was implemented by Superintendent [John] Escalante, will ensure separation from field duties while training and fitness for duty requirements can be conducted”, police said in the statement.
A prayer vigil will take place Sunday afternoon outside the homes where the shooting took place.
A police source said investigators were waiting for the autopsy to determine how many times Legrier was shot.
Adding to tensions that have reached a boiling point in the Windy City, Chicago police admitted they “accidentally” shot and killed a 55-year-old woman while trying to kill a 19-year-old man early Saturday morning.
Antonio LeGrier tells the Chicago Sun-Times when he returned to his apartment early Saturday, his son Quintonio LeGrier appeared to be a “little agitated”. “With that in mind, I have been informed that the Independent Police Review Authority has opened investigations into each shooting, and that all evidence will be shared with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for additional review in the days ahead”.
The authorities provided few other details, but family members of those killed said the shooting raised concerns about how officers are trained to handle people with mental illnesses and about the use of weapons when people uninvolved in a confrontation may be nearby. The officers who arrived on the scene, meaning only to shoot LeGrier, allegedly also shot Jones by accident.
Chicago Police officers were also involved in another shooting on Saturday.
The teenager’s mother, Janet Cooksey, who was absent when the incident occurred, said her son “had mental issues”, and his father was afraid because their son was behaving unusual.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said an investigation had been launched. “My son has seven – seven – bullet holes in him”.
The brother of a 55-year-old woman shot and killed by a Chicago police officer says his sister was the mother of four daughters and a son.
We are demanding more than a full and transparent investigation into the murders of Bettie Jones and Quintanio Lagrier.
Cooksey told the newspaper her son “didn’t have a gun”.
“I identified myself as the father and I held my hands out”, he said.
Mr Jones said he was “numb right now”.

On Christmas Eve, protesters from Black Lives Matter blockaded the city’s main shopping streets as part of a campaign calling for the mayor, Rahm Emanuel, to resign. I don’t have time to feel.
