Ty Lawson pleads guilty to charges in drunken driving arrest
The charges are connected to Lawson’s drunken driving arrest in Denver last January.

He pleaded guilty to one count of drunk driving while ability impaired and failure to stay in a single lane, according to the Denver County Court Records cited in the report. Officers described Lawson’s speech as slurred, his breath as having “a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage”, his eyes as “bloodshot/watery” and his balance as “swaying/stumbling”, according to Kieran Nicholson and Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post.
The judge can sentence Lawson to anything from probation to up to 180 days in jail, Kimbrough said.
Lawson was also arrested this summer in Los Angeles for another suspected DUI, and he’s due in court later this week for that offense.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 14. Three days later, he announced he planned to enter a private alcohol treatment program.
Bickerstaff said that the move was not to blame Lawson, but rather to get him play his style of game more.
Lawson going to the Grizzlies would give him a fresh start to reassess his position as a scoring point guard.
However, Lawson coming off the bench and not playing well alongside James Harden could be a hint for a possible mid-season trade, especially with how the Rockets are performing poorly early in the season.
