His promoter Frontier Touring clarified that he had not prohibited from entering the country but there were issues for his visa.

“We would much rather come to Australia when it isn’t surrounded in controversy,” says Tyler in the statement. I love my fans there and hopefully I’ll be back soon.

Rapper Tyler, The Creator performs onstage during day 2 of the 2015 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival (Weekend 1) at the Empire Polo Club on April 11, 2015 in Indio, California.

Last month the 24-year-old rapper, who is a member of the underground hip hop band Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, posted on social media he had been “banned from Australia”.

However, Tyler has now scrapped the shows following a campaign by feminist group Collective Shout urging the Australian government not to grant the artist a working visa.

Collective Shout lobbied immigration Minister Peter Dutton to refuse him entry, citing lyrics about “rape and extreme violence against women”. Full refunds are being offered to ticket holders, as well.

In the same message, Frontier said it “sincerely apologises to all those affected by this cancellation”, and promised “existing ticketholders are entitled to a refund”.

A month ago, Tyler tweeted about being banned from Australia (despite the fact that his visa had not really been denied) and specifically said an individual from Collective Shout.
