The weakened typhoon was headed towards Japan on Sunday, after battering the northern Philippines leaving 13 dead, and causing thousands of people to be evacuated off Taiwan’s east coast.

In the hard-hit mountain province of Benguet, landslides killed at least 12 people, including four gold miners who were pulled out of a huge mudslide that buried three work camps in far-flung Taneg village in Mankayan town.

At least five people died in northern Luzon on Friday – mostly in landslides triggered by heavy rains – despite Ineng not making landfall.

The others missing are: Ronaldo Angel, Paulita Angel, Ronald Paul Angel, Felimon Adcapan, John Aluyan Sr, John Aluyan Sr, Crisanto Ablao, Jasper Olivarez, Marpety B. Tumalban, Nardo Mocnangan, Marvin C. Baturi, Harold C. Baturi, Rocky Mangrubang, Mark Balicdan, Efren Balicdan and Armando Dayao.

In adjacent Mountain province, a 10-year-old boy was buried by a landslide.

Two men were swept by rampaging rivers in the northern provinces of La Union and Ilocos Norte and remained missing, officials said.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau said early Saturday that a land warning may not be issued for the typhoon in the country, but people will have to prepare for heavy to torrential rain during the weekend.

The weather bureau, however, alerted the people north of Yunlin and in the mountainous areas in Yilan and south of Chiayi county that torrential rain is likely to hit as an effect of the typhoon.

Goni unleashed a load of havoc: nine floods, eight landslides, two tornadoes and a collapsed bridge in the Philippines. Areas at risk include the hot spring town of Wulai that was devastated by Typhoon Soudelor two weeks ago. The popular tourist destination is still struggling to fix roads damaged by mudslides and the town remains cut off from regular water and power supplies. Orchid Island has experienced a range of wind speeds at level seven on the Beaufort scale and the strongest gusts reached level 14.
