Tyson Fury beats Wladimir Klitschko to become new world heavyweight champion

Fury found the opening rounds easy going and by the fourth those in attendance realized Klitschko simply wasn’t aggressive enough to win the 12 rounds, and in current form would find a knockout blow impossible to land.

Immediately following the fight, in which a younger, faster and more mobile Fury took a tentative, yet comfortable points decision over the younger Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Vitali expressed his surprise at events but promised his brother will ‘be back stronger, ‘ insisting he ‘deserves a rematch’. He also performed a rendition of Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing to the delight of his fans in attendance.

Vladimir Klitschko should have an opportunity to try to regain his titles, as the fight on Saturday night in Germany does have a contractual clause for a rematch.

Cesar Ramos and Raul Caiz Sr. scored it 115-112 each, while Ramon Cerdan had it 116-111 in favour of Fury.

This was Fury’s 25th professional success and he will cash in on the victory, regardless of his fight purse, having bet £200,000 (S$425,000) on himself. We’ve been on a 27-year mission.

The other world title is held by Deontay Wilder, potentially setting up a blockbuster fight next year – which could make the second half of Egan’s prediction come true.

Lennox Lewis has told Tyson Fury to tone down his antics after he won the world heavyweight title. “I’d like to say to Wladimir, you’re a great champion”, Fury said.

“I lost the battle but the fighter is still in me”, said Klitschko.

Fury dressed as Batman in the run-up to the fight and was involved in verbal spats with Klitschko, labelling him boring and robotic as well as saying he was only interested in breaking his face.

Fury said there were many people who didn’t believe he would become heavyweight champion of the world… and it was good to prove them wrong!

After the Hayemaker pulled out of two £10m fights against Fury, the champion’s camp have repeatedly claimed they will never go down that route again.

David Haye has given fellow Briton Tyson Fury a 1 in 20 chance of pulling off an upset against world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday.

“There were rounds in there I was playing with him, I had my hands behind my back, hands in the air and taunting him the whole way through. Congratulations Tyson Fury. Britain could dominate this division”. “This was his first big test. Now he has come through that test, you will see more of his boxing ability”, he said.
