Tyson Fury shocks Wladimir Klitschko to become world heavyweight champion

With the unanimous decision by the three judges, Fury remains unbeaten in the 25th fight to clinch the WBA, IBF and WBO belts meanwhile Wladimir Klitschko suffered his fourth loss, after 22 victories in row, in the 68th fight.

Fury’s choice of song – I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith – probably could not have been cheesier, but his delivery was a unusual mixture of touching and unbearable.

“Maybe it was just a bad night and I’m quite sure Wladimir will take the rematch chance and show the world who the real Wladimir Klitschko is”.

Fury beat the man at the top of the mountain, sure, but this was a close, close fight. That usually won’t cut it in a twelve-round championship fight at any weight class. Wladimir fought like a guy trying not to lose, not a champion placing his vintage imprimatur upon the marquee division in boxing. I just could not find the right distance.

David Haye, former WBA heavyweight champion, said: “What a great ending”.

Mikaela Shiffrin of Eagle-Vail, Colo., used an uncharacteristic fall the previous day as motivation for a World Cup slalom event in Aspen, Colo., and won by 3.07 seconds – the largest margin in the history of the women’s discipline.

Klitschko said he will “definitely” use the option of a rematch, which is in the fight contract. Klit is now completely finished. He didn’t send the reigning heavyweight champion out on his back, staring up at the ceiling.

Tyson Fury, the six foot nine inch Gypsy giant from Manchester is walking even taller tonight as the new heavyweight champion on the world.

Perhaps there’s a Fury vs. Klitschko II, perhaps Fury hides away with the belt in the United Kingdom for a couple of easy paydays, or perhaps he looks straight in the direction of American Deontay Wilder.

“They never believed the Titanic would sink but it did”.

“They get a few beers in them and they start thinking they are Tyson or Ali; throwing punches, swearing and jumping around with their big fat bellies”. It’s too early to say what I have learned.
