Playing for World No.1 at the Western & Southern Open, she made it all the way to the final and went one better at the US Open to claim her second Grand Slam. Angelique has won 11 ITF titles in singels and 3 in doubles.

The second seed earned a 6-4 4-6 6-4 victory in NY to become just the second female player to lift two Grand Slam titles in the same year since 2007. Karolina Pliskova (RCH) 4 425.7.

For now, she will have to time to reflect on her recent experiences which included a United States television breakfast-show appearance alongside Hollywood star Patrick Dempsey and Italian film icon Sophia Loren.

Although Pliskova won 80 per cent of her serve and volley points, she deployed the tactic only ten times.

Pliskova was the first player to take a set off Kerber at Flushing Meadows.

Kerber is the first German to win the US Open since Steffi Graf in 1996.

And coupled with a resolve as stern and as exact as German engineering, she kept the faith. It all started for me here in NY five years ago when I reached the semi-finals and now I am here with the trophy.

The two-time grand-slam champion said she was confident of dealing with expectations.

A potential turning put did arrive soon after, though, as Pliskova was able to secure an important break at 4-3 before holding on her service game and eventually pushing through to leave the game heading into a decisive third set. “And it is with that love in mind, and a new understanding of the true meaning of forgiveness, that I will proudly return to Indian Wells in 2015”.

The German second seed got home 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at Flushing Meadows in NY to add to the Australian Open title she won in January.

Kerber had won the opening set 6-3.

But it was Pliskova’s stunning semifinal conquest of Serena Williams that became a win for the ages as the loss emphatically ended the American’s streak of 186 straight weeks as world No. 1. Although she had stopped in the quarterfinals, Courtney Nguyen writes: “Simona Halep is back to her best”.

The apparently serious and straightforward figures of Kerber and her opponent, the rangy Karolina Pliskova, played an excellent three set final to show that there remains plenty of technical ability on the WTA Tour. Because I know that when I practicing I can be aggressive. “Because. if she sees she still has a chance, she’s grabbing it and she goes for it”. “And I think this down-the-line forehand was “the shot” of the third and the key, I think, as well for the match”. “Because I know that I can run for four hours on the court but going for it as well”. “I told myself, ‘OK, I will try to enjoy it now.’ And not going out there with the pressure, with the expectations that everybody say, ‘OK, now you have to win every tournament'”. I’m getting used to everything that’s happened around me right now. They are always telling me when I was also down, ‘You are a really good player.
