U.S., Cuba to Establish Scheduled Air Services
Thursday was the one-year anniversary of President Barack Obama announcing he normalization of relations between the two countries, and a group of touring Major League players, including some Cuban ex-patriots, are touring the island nation. Even the most optimistic supporters of the policy shift in and outside of the administration say it is unlikely Congress will act to fully lift the embargo before Mr. Obama leaves office, though Mr. Obama said this week that he would try to get Congress to do so. “The United States maintains programs that are harmful to Cuban sovereignty, such as projects to promote changes in our political, economic and social order”, he said.

Senators, congressional representatives, lobbyists, diplomats, current and former U.S. officials, business executives, advocates and activists-gathered Wednesday night for a “one year celebration of U.S.-Cuba ties”. The governments have not announced a timetable for how the proposal is to be affected and there are no details either regarding the number of flights that will be authorized under the new scheme. These flights are operated by carriers such as American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, Eastern Air Lines, and Atlantic World, to name a few.
American has been flying to Cuba the longest of any US carrier, starting charter service to the island in 1991.
That incorporates 20 flights a day between the US furthermore, Cuba’s capital city of Havana, and 10 a day between the USA also, nine universal airplane terminals spread over the island. It’s unclear if those flights would completely replace charters, but they appear certain to create a surge in travel that would place heavy strain on Cuba’s already overstrained tourist infrastructure.
Aircraft landing in the United States must meet USA safety standards, so aging Russian planes in the Cuban fleet will likely only fly domestically within Cuba. Cuba and the United States restored diplomatic ties in July and have reached agreements on restarting direct mail service and environmental protection.
He’s pointing to embassies reopened, freer travel and commerce, and more information flowing in and out of Cuba.
American Airlines praised the decision and expressed interest in adding more flights to Cuba. The U.S. State Department said.

“Today, more Americans are visiting Cuba and engaging the Cuban people than at any time in the last 50 years”, Obama said in a statement.
