U.S. Immigrants Touch 42.4 Million

Conversely, the number of European and Canadian migrants has declined.

In 2014, the foreign-born population hit an all-time recorded high of 42.4 million – an increase of more than 325 percent since 1970. But an extensive report released this week debunks their claims, finding that immigrants make great efforts to learn English and adopt American values and customs, and that subsequent generations are entirely integrated.

Today, there are 41 million immigrants who represent about 13.1 percent of the US population, while the U.S.-born children of immigrants represent another 37.1 million people, or 12 percent of the population.

“This is like early 2000s levels”, said Brookings Institute demographer William Frey. “The medical mantra “do no harm” dictates how we address individual patients without bias in real time”.

As of 2010, the counties of origin with the highest percentage increase in the number of immigrants in the US were Saudi Arabia, which saw an increase of 93 percent.

Thirty-eight percent of new legal immigrants took a class in English before coming to the United States, according to research cited in the report. But turning up the heat on criminal immigrants actually runs counter to the truth about the immigrant population as a whole.

California showed the biggest upticks in Hispanics, Asians and foreign-born college graduates. This is money that is gone from our economy forever. And in another surprise to some conservative pundits: crime rates were lower in USA cities with large immigrant populations, a statistic that remained true right down to the neighborhood level in neighborhoods where immigrants make up a large portion of the population.

That finding refutes the idea that immigrants shouldn’t be allowed to enter our borders because they may pose some kind of health risk.

El Salvador (up 101,000) and Guatemala (up 85,000) complete the top five sending countries. Medical providers must administer care regardless of a patient’s legal status, and many medical professionals believe the healthcare industry needs to change to meet the growing needs of the undocumented population. Similarly, divorce and out-of-wedlock birth rates among immigrants are much lower than nonimmigrant Americans, but these rates go up.

In the midst of the GOP debates, immigration is an issue fueling the fire for many political platforms.

Compared with native-born Americans, foreign-born immigrants are less likely to die from cardiovascular disease and cancers, have fewer chronic health conditions, have lower infant mortality rates, have lower rates of obesity, and have longer life expectancy rates, among other issues.

The population of Mexican-born had declined from 2000 to 2012.

“I have been on campus for 17 years, and in that time, I have seen undocumented students struggle, and those struggles are still there and real”, Robinson said. “But it certainly means that if it keeps up, it will”. This indicates that immigrant and second-generation children across all major ethnic and racial groups are more likely to live in families with two parents than are third-generation children.

Republican candidates have called for a get-tough approach to illegal immigration and some have proposed limiting legal immigration as well, arguing it is having an adverse effect on native-born workers. Even candidates who support immigration reform, like Graham, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and Sen. “Whether they are successfully integrating is therefore a pressing and important question”. “The face of immigration is changing”.
