U.S. LTE speeds aren’t that great
This means T-Mobile has overtaken its rival, Verizon Communications Inc.

“All four major operators saw improvements to their coverage footprints in the last quarter, the result being that overall USA 4G subscribers can now see an LTE signal 81% of the time”. The carrier easily took the top spot when it came to downloads on 3G (an average speed of 3.5 Mbps compared to second place AT&T’s 2.2 Mbps), and just narrowly clinched the top spot for 4G (12.3 Mbps download speeds compared to Verizon’s 12 Mbps).
T-Mobile doubled its LTE footprint a year ago, adding almost 1 million square miles of LTE and covering almost 97 percent of Verizon’s customers, he told TechNewsWorld. So when T-Mobile CEO John Legere says that he wants to compete with the world, he (and all his domestic competitors) really has his work cut out for him. Not only is it making waves with its Crazy Larry-style deals, which aren’t always what they’re cracked up to be, but the company is also improving the overall quality of its service.
If you’ve ever been frustrated that Netflix won’t stream quickly on your iPhone (even when you have crystal clear reception) perhaps you should try it where speeds are much better.
“For this report, we drew data from the hundreds of thousands of OpenSignal users that have LTE-capable phones and connect to operators with live 4G networks”, Open Signal said.
The U.S. 4G average of 9.9 Mbps fell short of the global download average of 13.5 Mbps.
T-Mobile relies on high-frequency spectrum more than AT&T and Verizon do.

Only 53 percent of United Kingdom networks have a consistent LTE signal, but this blunder was made up by 4G download speeds of 15 Mbps. Japan demonstrates an average download speed of 12 Mbps-which puts it on a par with Uruguay and Georgia-while 4G-birthplace Sweden is one Mbps higher … the same download speed as Guatemala and the Dominican Republic. While the offer doesn’t have a pre-planned end date, families who sign up now can keep their Unlimited LTE rate plan for a minimum of at least two years with T-Mobile’s Un-contract and any other plan for as long as they’re a customer. This includes AT&T, Verizon, among other carriers. T-Mobile’s fastest speed was in Atlanta, where it tied with Verizon, averaging 16.9 Mbps.
