“We haven’t had a chance to speak with Mr. Stone”, Bernard said.

Police said the fray all started outside a club in the California capital’s midtown zone, …

Police say no arrests have been made yet.

The Sacramento stabbing happened in a busy area ringed with bars and restaurants that is a popular nightlife magnet for young people and is generally considered safe.

Hailermariam told the TV station it was three men against one and added that a 24-year-old woman was also injured after she tried to protect Mr Stone after he had been stabbed. Prior to the incident, Stone’s group had been drinking at the Badlands Dance Club in Sacramento, a source told the Bee.

Stone has since been brought to a hospital, has undergone surgery, and is now recovering in the intensive care unit. However, he declined to discuss any details about the surgery or whether any of Stone’s vital organs were damaged.

Kirk says Stone was conscious when he arrived at the hospital.

“Given his history of recent events, he’s quite a fighter”, Kirk said.

He was listed in stable condition at UC Davis Medical Center, and officials said he was expected to pull through.

Mr Stone, 23, and two of his childhood friends from Sacramento, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, stopped a gunman on a Paris-bound passenger train in August, receiving worldwide accolades and gaining sudden celebrity.

The suspect in the train assault, Ayoub El Khazzani, 25, of Morocco, was charged in France with attempted murder, attempted mass murder and membership in a terrorist organization.

“We’re really hoping that additional witnesses or anyone involved comes forward”, Morse said.

They previously had been awarded France’s highest honor – the Legion d’Honneur – by President Francois Hollande.

A still from the surveillance video that shows Stone being stabbed.

Alex Skarlatos, who has found a new calling as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars, and who is, ironically from Roseburg, Oregon, where 9 students were killed by a gunman, tweeted his support for his friend, Spencer. I know what you’re thinking, but as of noon ET, there’s no reason to believe this was a jihadi reprisal.

A grainy observation video from a camera outside a store demonstrated a man who had all the earmarks of being Stone battling with a few individuals at a convergence.

Police say the fight that left a U.S. airman severely wounded was not an act of terror or a hate crime.
