About 20 people were killed and 90 wounded by a bomb explosion in a mosque in the northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Monday, the state emergency agency NEMA said.
Two female suicide bombers killed “several people” in the Buraburin neighborhood.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has described Sunday and Monday’s Boko Haram attacks in Borno and Adamawa States as disheartening and an indictment on the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
“The United States remains committed to helping Nigeria and its neighbours counter Boko Haram’s senseless acts of terror”, Toner said.
Security agents did not give a number of deaths but resident Musa Abdukadir said he had counted over 50 bodies in the hospital after the attack and that doctors had told him more bodies had been taken to two different hospitals. In January 2014, Boko Haram attacked the base and freed hundreds of detainees.
Another twin suicide bombing that killed at least 30 people occurred just 95 miles away, in Madagali.
“A man saw two girls walking around and he tried to caution them to be careful as it was risky for them to be wandering when the two girls detonated themselves, killing the man and some other persons”, Mr. Abdullahi said. Brig. Gen. Victor Ezugwu, the officer commanding in northeast Adamawa State, confirmed the attack but said casualties have yet to be established.
According to President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria has “technically defeated” Boko Haram.
Acting on information provided by a captured insurgent, Nigerian troops “intercepted and destroyed” 13 would-be suicide bombers and arrested one female would-be suicide bomber, Maj.
Lai Mohammed, speaking to journalists in Lagos State said members of the deadly sect are also incapable of carrying out any major attacks in Nigeria.
But for military intelligence and luck, Boko Haram almost had Maiduguri pencilled down for a massive massacre through suicide bombing.
