U.S. swimmer Feigen fined $10800 for lying about attack in Rio

“To the gas station owner, to the Brazilian police, to the people of Rio and to the people of Brazil and everyone who came together to put on these wonderful Games, I want to say that I am truly, 110 percent – I am sorry”. Following investigations by Brazilian police, it was revealed the four men had made up the story to cover up an incident at a petrol station in which the athletes vandalised a toilet. The guards made a money gesture with their hands and regardless of how it started, the swimmers had a gun pointed at them and they were not allowed to leave until they had given the money, the sources said.
Feigen did not join Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger when they left Thursday night because he was ordered to donate nearly $11,000 to a local sports charity before charges against him would be dropped. He will have his passport returned as part of an $11,000 donation agreement, authorities said.
The three other swimmers in the vehicle tried to leave as quickly as possible because they feared Lochte would cause more damage, G1 said, quoting from the revised testimony. In everything I do, I am representing my family, my country and my school. “The only person that continues to say there was a robbery is (Lochte)”, Velso said after the press conference.
We can only guess that Lochte, who is clearly nervous during the interview, choked and forgot how to speak basic English.
American swimmer Gunnar Bentz issued a public apology late Friday night for the gas station incident seen ’round the world, just hours after his teammate, Ryan Lochte, did the same.
On Thursday, Brazilian Chief of Civil Police Fernando Veloso stated that Lochte’s story had been proven false.
The charity, the Reaction Institute, said Feigen’s lawyer had already contacted them about making the payment. Another person stepped in to intervene between the athletes and the guards, and the athletes left money, police said.
Bentz also said he is “confident” that some video angles that would substantiate his account have either not been released by Rio authorities or were skipped over.
Then security video reviewed by police and later released publicly confirmed the gas station vandalism and that the swimmers spoke with station employees.
Ever since Ryan Lochte was caught lying about being held at gunpoint in Rio on August 14th, people are wondering what his teammate, Michael Phelps thinks about the whole ordeal.
