U.S. ‘will not be a migrant camp’: Donald Trump

In perhaps the most surprising response from a first lady, a statement from Melania Trump’s office said she “hates” to see families separated at the border.

Bavaria’s Christian Social Union (CSU), anxious about losing votes to a new right-wing party in an October regional election, wants a ban on admitting migrants into Germany who have already registered in another EU country. Border Patrol agents take into custody a father and son from Honduras near the U.S. -Mexico border on June 12, 2018 near Mission, Texas.

Michigan Republican Rep. Fred Upton called for an immediate end to the “ugly and inhumane practice” of separation. It beefs up border security, clamps down on illegal entries and reinforces other immigration laws.

As Trump accused Democrats of supporting immigration loopholes, he also stuck with his false claims that he can’t do anything about his child separation policies, and only new legislation can fix it. Rosalynn Carter also weighed in, calling the policy a disgrace and that she has seen first hand the trauma of separating children from their parents.

The children, who range in age from one to 18 years old, are placed in holding centres, some of which are tent-covered operations where they sleep on mats on concrete floors in units delineated by chain-link fences resembling cages.

“If you don’t have Borders, you don’t have a Country!” he added in another tweet.

Since the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy was debuted over a month ago, the number of people in detention centers has risen and backlogs have built up in courts.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, speaking to reporters during a tour of San Diego immigration detention facilities with Rep. Juan Vargas and other House Democrats, said family separation is a “heartbreaking, barbarian issue that could be changed in a moment by the president of the United States rescinding his action”.

Here is what Trump said, and what the reality is.

If neither bill can pass, Goodlatte said he will take a look at a simpler, short-term bill sponsored by Cruz that would keep families together. “Hopefully people will get the message and not break across the border unlawfully”. The president tweeted Monday asking “where is the outrage” over killings carried out by undocumented immigrants.

The Trump administration is detaining immigrant children in 17 states, including more than 2,000 taken from their parents after they crossed the US border illegally, officials said in a briefing before the speech.

“Mexico does nothing for us”, said the president.

“This practice is cruel and contrary to American values”, the group’s chair, Chuck Robbins, said. She said she’s managed to speak to her sister, who has been moved to an immigration detention facility near Port Isabel, Texas.

The separations have been blasted by Democrats, some Republicans, medical professionals, rights activists and clergy.

Both were created to protect immigrant children from dangers like human trafficking and to provide minimum standards for their care, including turning them over to the Department of Health and Human Services for resettlement within three days of arrest, as opposed to being held in lengthy detention, and dictating that children with their families also can not be held in detention or jail-like conditions longer than three weeks.

A Reuters/Ipsos national opinion poll released on Tuesday showed fewer than one in three American adults support the policy. She says, ‘I promise I’ll behave, but please get me out of here.

It requires the government to release rather than detain children caught trying to enter the USA and exempts them from an immediate return to their home countries.

Trump planned to meet with Republican lawmakers later on Tuesday before votes expected this week on immigration legislation. “I think we’ve made it abundantly clear that the daylight exists between Democrats and Congress and their ability to change this law”, she said. “Good for the children, good for the country, good for the world”, he said. Details were still in flux.

Senator Pat Roberts, from Kansas, said he is “against using parental separation as a deterrent to illegal immigration”.

Decrying “internment camps”, Democrats and their supporters disrupted a high-profile U.S. congressional hearing about an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe on Tuesday. A young boy can be heard crying, repeatedly crying for his “Papa”. His Republican colleagues tried to shout over him “Out of order!” That means an average of about 65 children per day were separated from their parents under the zero-tolerance initiative that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen unveiled in May.
