When asked about the women’s basketball team possibly not getting the attention it deserves for all of its success in these Games, Taurasi offered up a sarcastic response.

It certainly wasn’t pretty, but Olympic gold never loses its luster.

“No doubt in my mind”, Kevin Durant said.

Team USA defeated Spain 101-72 Saturday at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to win its sixth straight gold medal in women’s basketball and a record eighth overall in the 10 Olympic Games in which the United States has participated.

“I can not explain how we won with such a big margin after suffering so much in the quarter-finals”, said Spain’s Laura Quevedo. “We’ve always come up short. We managed to find a way not to let them run away”. “As they showed yesterday it doesnt matter whos out there we have a really good team. We never let them play easy.

Midway through the opening period, Ricky Rubio, Spain’s starting point guard, was called for two personals in the span of 46 seconds.

There never really was any doubt that the USA would win the gold in Rio.

To get by Spain again, Team USA would have to win ugly.

“It’s like making a comparison with a club competition if a team is 50 times your budget and you manage to compete and to stay in the game to the very end, which is an accomplishment”, Spanish coach Sergio Scariolo said.

The dominant US women’s basketball team did what was expected, winning a sixth consecutive Olympic gold medal and doing it in impressive fashion.

In a long series of wins, Gwen Jorgensen’s Olympic gold will stand out. Serbia and France both surpassed 90 points against them and Australia scored 88, as the team with 10 Olympic newcomers took longer than hoped in grasping global offenses.

“We are mentally strong”, he said.

Gasol though still has a chance to medal as he and Spain will face Australia on Sunday in the Bronze medal game. I am incredibly grateful for this tremendous opportunity and I will do my very best to contribute my experience and work ethic to help this extraordinary franchise achieve its goal. “We are going to the final to fight against the Americans no matter what”. “And we obviously as a team weren’t where we needed to be at the start of the game – for whatever reason”. “When we focus in and we kind of dedicate ourselves to playing the right way, it’s a scary sight out there”. But she logged almost 17 minutes, running the show while letting her teammates carry the load.

Taurasi and the Americans played almost flawless basketball in Rio, and were never challenged.
