McDuffie calls it a “volatile” time for minority students and faculty and said he hopes to talk to the new chancellor about these incidents.
URBANA, Ill. (AP) – The University of IL plans to introduce new Urbana-Champaign campus Chancellor Robert Jones at a meeting Wednesday.
State University of NY at Albany President Robert J. Jones was named chancellor on Tuesday, pending formal approval by the University of IL board of trustees on Thursday.
Villanueva said Jones asked to meet with student leaders the first day he arrived in IL, something he says speaks of his commitment to the school.
Jones calls the new position at the University of IL “my dream job”.
“I have the land-grant mission in my blood”.
Spencer Lane, another student at U of I, does not know much about Jones, but he says he is excited to learn about what is he going to do for the school.
“A distinguished scholar in the agricultural sciences and a thoughtful and visionary leader in public higher education with an exemplary record of accomplishment as a sitting university president for a research-intensive public university, he is simply ideally qualified to lead our institution into the future”, he said.
He spent 34 years at the University of Minnesota, first as a plant physiologist in the department of agronomy and plant genetics.
“We had budget cuts”.
“It’s been slow and hard, but I think we’re heading in the right direction”, Montgomery said.
