Uber driver suspected in MI shooting spree, 6 dead
Since Dalton’s arrest, several people have come forward to say that he picked them up for Uber in the hours after the first attack.

The Associated Press reported Mary Lou Nye lived with her husband, Chris, on property surrounded by his family’s farmland, neighbor Carole Dinges said.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says Uber is cooperating with law enforcement officials investigating the shootings, and he believes the company will “help us fill in some timeline gaps”. He said the company received complaints about Dalton from several passengers on Saturday, including one about unsafe and erratic driving.
Dalton, a married father of two, is accused of driving around Kalamazoo Saturday night and shooting at his targets, seemingly at random.
“In the end, I ask people, because I keep hearing this question of why, ‘What would be the answer that would be an acceptable answer for you?’ They have to think about it for a moment, and they say, ‘Probably nothing’. I said, ‘Are you sure?’ And he said, ‘No, I’m not, I’m just exhausted.’ And we proceeded to have a pretty normal conversation after that”.
Authorities have not provided a motive.
Who is Jason Dalton, accused Kalamazoo mass shooter?
Fifteen minutes after that, five people, including a 14-year-old girl, were gunned down in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
The four women killed at the Cracker Barrel parking lot were already in two vehicles when they were shot. In the first incident a woman was shot a number of times – reportedly in front of her children – outside a Kalamazoo residential building. Mellen told the station Dalton began driving erratically after receiving a phone call.
In new clues as to what may have motivated Kalamazoo, Michigan gunman, Jason Brian Dalton, going on his indiscriminate shooting spree on Saturday, February 20, which led to the deaths of six and the serious injuring of three, Uber passenger Matt Mellen, 30 has recounted his harrowing episode.
Uber prohibits passengers and drivers from possessing guns of any kind in a vehicle. Anyone found to be in violation of the policy may be prohibited from using or driving for the service.
“My father mentioned from the back seat, you know, the situation with the shooter”, the passenger, identified only as Derek, said. He says Dalton was speeding, sideswiping cars and driving over medians and lawns.
Progressive Insurance confirmed that Dalton once worked for the company before leaving in 2011. “The idea that simply having someone look at someone, they could determine if they’re about to have a psychotic episode is a faulty theory”.
David Pfaff (POFF), principal at Eastern Hancock High School in Charlottesville, Indiana, said he remembers Jason Dalton from when he was in school. Prosecutors said they did not expect to charge anyone else.
“I’m hurt”, Gina Bell said.
Dalton admitted to investigators with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety that he “took peoples’ lives”, court documents showed. “There’s a couple of fees I don’t know what they are”, said Pascale. A woman was also shot and left critically injured at the dealership before the suspect allegedly drove away to find more victims. The woman was struck multiple times but is expected to survive.
