The auto travelled approximately 1.6 miles from London Fields in Hackney to Hoxton at 11.05am on Thursday 24 December 2015, according to Uber, which was cofounded in 2009 by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp.
In India, Uber is still facing troubles after the arrest of one its drivers who was charged with raping a passenger.
The one billionth Uber ride took place in Hackney. The company named both rider and driver in its announcement, thanking the two for being part of Uber’s history.
However, Uber’s dominance could be under threat from cab:app.
Another key distinction is that it uses licensed hackney carriage drivers, or black cab drivers.
Based on a recent round of funding the company has reached a valuation of more than $60 billion.
Transport for London (TfL) has recently closed a consultation on a set of 25 proposals that regulate how minicabs work in the city.
Following a busy year with lawsuits, protests from traditional taxi companies, and difficulties with its public image, ride-sharing giant Uber announced a huge milestone this week: it’s given its billionth ride. Uber competes with US-based Lyft and other global startups. To celebrate, Uber is giving Marvin a year’s worth of free rides, and Ara gets a vacation to anywhere Uber serves.

Uber said it was also making a donation to Hackney Pirates, a charity serving the neighborhood where the billionth trip started.
