Uber overtakes rental cars among United States business travelers
Taxis accounted for 14 percent of ground transportation transactions in the first quarter of 2016. “Uber definitely has an impact on the car-rental industry”, Mazari said.

“Uber and Lyft are running a deceptive campaign in a blatant attempt to confuse voters and allow the corporations to write their own public safety rules”, Garza said. Another bit of relief: Uber appears to have reached a settlement in a suit filed by the National Federation of the Blind, one alleging that drivers refused service to passengers with service dogs.
“If a business traveler is in a city they’re not familiar with … to let somebody else do the driving while you work in the back seat is a much more efficient use of time”, said Bob Neveu, Certify’s CEO. “They’re quick to like things on Facebook or Tweet about things, but it’s hard to get people out to the polls”.
In late January, Lyft also cut fares in more than 30 U.S. cities to keep pace with similar cuts by Uber. “It was first to market, and it has been incredibly successful at defending and growing its leadership position… it is clear that Uber is aggressively expanding their business and not resting on their laurels”.
Some statements in advertisements urging voters to approve the upcoming ballot proposition regarding ride-hailing company regulations are inaccurate, Austin City Council members Delia Garza, Kathie Tovo, Ann Kitchen, Ora Houston and Sabino “Pio” Renteria said in an April 19 press conference. And the number of taxicab rides fell compared with a year ago.
That’s a faster pace of growth than Uber over the period – increasing Lyft’s share of rides between the two companies from 3.3 percent to 7.7 percent – but still a fraction of Uber’s NY business.
A California Senate panel on Tuesday blocked legislation aimed at preventing ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft from adjusting their prices based on demand, a practice known as “surge pricing” that is at the heart of the companies’ business models.

Even if the ride-hailing companies were allowed to operate at the convention center, there would still be plenty of business to go around for taxi operators, Folk argued. By that measure, Uber rides made up 69% of all trips in March, with Lyft at 4%, and taxis at 27%.
