Uber is the second ride-hailing company to be granted full access to one of Southern California’s most lucrative ride markets.

The Los Angeles World Airports announced the transportation option Wednesday.

“Uber has changed the way Angelenos and visitors to Los Angeles move around our city”.

The Fort Worth-based carrier is the biggest airline at LAX, serving about 19% of the passengers at the airport, while Delta Air Lines and United Airlines each carry about 16%.

According to LAWA, the announcement comes at a critical moment in LAX’s history as it is now undergoing an $8.5-billion modernisation programme to renovate almost every terminal at LAX.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced the daily flights in a press conference at the airport, saying the service will be a boon to business travelers.

The entry of Uber into one of the nation’s busiest airports – LAX says 74.5 million people passed through a year ago – marks another breakthrough for the digital service that connects passengers with drivers using their own cars.

The short-lived nonstop flight to Los Angeles ended in 2014 after American Airlines merged with U.S. Airways.

Uber will pay the airport $4 per trip, similar to fees paid by other airport transportation providers to maintain roadways and to reduce traffic congestion in the Central Terminal Area. “Travelers benefit, as well as the airport”.
