Ubisoft Confirms New Far Cry Primal With Announcement Trailer

Earlier this year, Ubisoft teased that they had left one AAA release off of their summer expo schedules.

Far Cry Primal is being released on February 23, 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Ubisoft heard their cries and is using the next entry in the Far Cry franchise to get as far away from modern as you possibly can. Instead “this is the Stone Age with irreverence and mayhem”. “For us it’s always been important to have nature be bigger than man. Man was definitely not at the top of the food chain”.

The game will take place in the “untamed land of Oros”, where the players will play as the character Takkar, a sole survivor of an ambush on his hunting group. Animal corpses will attract larger predators though, like the sabretooth shown in the trailer, so you’ll need to be quick. The trailer ends with a surprise attack from one of the rival tribes of hunters. It’s all about fighting another tribe that is trying to take your stuff. Even better: it arrives sooner than you’d think.

So what about a possible Far Cry 5? Far Cry Primal Executive Producer Dan Hay talked about how the idea for the game came about.

EXPERIENCE THE STONE AGE BY FAR CRY: Enter an open world sandbox filled with the unpredictable chaos and peril that the best-selling Far Cry franchise is known for. Every weapon is made with the raw materials you will gather. Far Cry Primal Creative Director Jean-Christophe Guyot talked about Far Cry Primal and what it automatically does different from every other iteration in the series.

With the heavier focus on survival comes a day and night cycle. Most likely, this means you can’t just shoot an arrow at a red barrel this time.

The game is in development at Ubisoft Montreal, in collaboration with the Toronto, Shanghai and Kiev studios.
