Ubisoft is shutting down the free-to-play ‘Ghost Recon’
The other game disappearing into the nether is the free-to-play The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, which will end all services on October 25th. And while the game is free for anyone to play, players also can purchase premium items and fully personalize their experience.

It “wasn’t as successful as we had hoped for, so we had to make the decision to close the game”, a note on the game’s Euro forums reads. As for a possible follow-up, Ubisoft said that Phantoms “has been developed as far as we could take it”, and a sequel or successor of any sort is “unlikely” to happen. The game will get shutdown on December 1. At one point a Wii U version was discussed, but the game appeared only for Windows PC. However, it wasn’t until April 2014 that the game got officially released and became Ubisoft’s first entry into the F2P online shooter market. “You know, you could have revamped this game into something much better and gotten so much more out of it”.
“I have 4 years invested in this game and probably over a $1000.00”, says Chris Hood.
In line with our terms of sale, we hereby inform you that there will be no refund of any virtual currency you have spent in the game or for any resources you still may own on shutdown date, nor any conversion of any remaining virtual currency to another game. GRP players who still have premium currency have ninety days to invest them in the game, which won’t be accessible after the shutdown. “Please contact our customer support team if you want to request the deletion of your personal data”. Their reasoning was similar to their Ghost Recon explanation.
The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, a real-time strategy game by Ubisoft Montreal, made its full launch in February 2015, though it had been available to players as early as June 2013 through a closed beta and Steam Early Access release.

Ghost Recon Phantoms and Mighty Quest for Epic Loot will both be shutting down so that Ubisoft can focus on other, more profitable projects, but what those are remains to be seen.
