Dhaka: Broken by the discovery that his 21-year-old son Rohan Imtiaz was one of the suspected terrorists who stormed a Dhaka cafe and killed 20 people, a Bangladeshi politician has offered an apology to the parents of Tarishi Jain, the Indian student killed in the terror strike.

“Those are the type of moments taken from her for a senseless and ill-reasoned extremist thought”, said Parker. He would be among those found dead on Saturday morning. She arrived at Cal in 2015 and was majoring in economics. “The country is with them in this hour of grief”.

Tarishi’s family is originally from Firozabad where her uncles – Rakesh, Rajiv and Ajit – are engaged in glass items business.

Imtiaz, who graduated from Scholastica, an elite school in Dhaka, had said he was leaving for university when he left home on December 30 but did not return.

“We mourn our student and classmate Tarishi, we stand with her family and friends”.

Her father reportedly was outside the bakery, hoping his daughter would survive.

“We were constantly in touch with Sanjiv who was waiting outside the restaurant”.

Kereisha Harrell says she worked with Hossain and Kabir on a committee that planned schoolwide events. “One of the people we lost was my friend”. “I have no words to describe how desperate we felt in those moments”.

Her body was taken from IGI Airport to Gurugram Community Centre at around 1.46 pm. “She had an worldwide outlook and was ambitious”, Shirish Jain said. They were both very intelligent.

Just months ago, her cousin recalled, Jain was regaling her relatives with stories of her Berkeley experiences during a family visit to India.

The speakers at the vigil included Chancellor Nicholas Dirks, William Morrow, president of the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC), Lawrence Cohen, director, Institute for South Asia Studies, Venkata Ramana, consul for community affairs, Indian Consulate of San Francisco, other officials and number of Jain’s close friends. But after Friday’s attack in Bangladesh, we have further increased our vigil along the border.

He said there were signs of torture on Tarishi’s body. She was able to speak to her father on her cell phone moments before she was killed.
