UC Merced student stabbed 4 people after being kicked out of study

It wasn’t terrorism, police said, that led Faisal Mohammad to stab four people Wednesday morning on the UC Merced campus. Police shot Mohammad dead on Wednesday after he stabbed four people on the University of California, Merced campus. “I just didn’t expect it to be him”.

Classes the university’s 6,700 students were scheduled to resume Friday.

‘He had a smile on his face, he was having fun – which is more what bothers me, ‘ Price told CBSFresno.

“So he got closer, he probably passed within about five feet of me and I noticed he was gripping something thick and black in his hand”, Christopherson said.

Faisal Mohammad had no previous run-ins with police and no clues in his past behavior to suggest that the freshman at University of California, Merced, would try to execute an elaborate plan to kill his classmates as revenge for being kicked out of the group, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department said. He stabbed a construction worker who intervened then ran from the building and knifed a school employee sitting on a bench.

Classes at the campus northeast of Merced were canceled Thursday.

“The threat of a mass shooter on campus on Monday [at Fresno State] and then a knifing on Wednesday at Merced, it’s kind of disheartening more than anything else, that these places can’t be safer than that”, Eissinger said.

“There was absolutely nothing they could find to indicate anything other than his being a college student at UC Merced”, Warne told reporters, according to the San Jose Mercury News, adding that the attack had been the result of “personal animosities”.

“I knew someday it might, but I was just hoping it wouldn’t happen here”.

Byron Price, 31, a construction worker doing remodeling work next door, interrupted the attack, rushing into the classroom to break up what he thought was a fistfight.

Following the stabbing violence, Price, perhaps November’s top American Samaritan, reportedly drove himself from the UC Merced campus to the hospital where he received nine staples.

Warnke said Mohammad’s plan was written in English and referenced the Muslim god Allah several times. Warnke said the worker’s actions probably saved the life of the first victim.

The incident began Wednesday morning in a class and office building.

“The reason for these projected activities, and I want to make this very clear, he had gotten kicked out of a study group and was upset with one of the students and apparently took his anger to the extreme level”, said Vern Warnkle.

Mohammad, a university student who lived on campus, entered his class around 8 a.m. with a hunting knife and began his stabbing spree. “Counselors are available to our students and staff to help them process this information in a supportive way”. “We sympathize with the stabbing victims and their families, and are grateful that all four individuals who were injured are expected to recover”.

He says stabbing and plane to tie up hostages are highly intimate crimes, unlike school shootings in the past. The staff member suffered a collapsed lung in the attack and is still recovering after successful surgery.
